Crosswinds Internet Communications
(Note: this service is no longer free). This site offers ad-free personal Web pages, with unlimited space, free E-mail and other goodies, like free Majordomo mailing lists. Web space for businesses is also available, although for these types of sites, there's a 25-megabyte limit and you must display a banner on your main page, above the fold. You may upload your page via FTP or with their upload service that you access through your browser. No porn, warez (pirated material) or spamming allowed. We've had many complaints lately about FTP access woes here.

Hypermart
This service offers you a generous 50 megs of space and unlimited bandwidth for your non-porn business-related Web site (no personal sites allowed). Hypermart offers you CGI-bin access and supports Microsoft Front Page extensions. We've had complaints that it can take a long time to upload pages here. Tech support is not easy to obtain here, our visitors report. Another drawback is that you need a credit card to sign up for the free hosting service.
